Welcome Family Literature Lovers

Hello from Nashville,
Here is the first post for our new blog about books! Keith and I, for the past three years, have read a book together during the spring. We usually choose something a bit more challenging so we can encourage each other along the way. To date we have read Anna Karenina and A Tale of Two Cities. Both were great reads. We are preparing to embark on Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead (Beth, I hear you loved it). I know almost nothing about the book; only what Mark told me last night over dinner. If any of you want to join us in this read, you are welcome to do so. I think we'll begin in about two weeks and set some sort of schedule so we can all be at the same spot by a certain date. As our blog grows, anyone can suggest a read and post whenever with whomever. It's a shame the Harry Potter series is finished. We all enjoyed those so much. Some other books we have in common are The Kite Runner, The Glass Castle, Jane Eyre (Taylor's personal favorite), and A Summons to Memphis.
Very informal, no pressure, just a place to visit when you have time and the notion to talk about what you are reading.

At the moment I am in the middle of three series. The Pendragon series, the Percy Jackson and the Olimpians series, and the Wrinkle in Time series. I am not really enjoying the Wrinkle in Time series but the other two are very, very good. Roger and Paul sent us the Percy Jackson series for Chrismas and I heard of the Pendragon series from a kid at school.I think this is a good idea and I highly recomend the books I have mentioned above.

Hello my fellow literary peeps,

I am currently reading my third Ayn Rand novel called We The Living. It will be my last. It is her first novel and was met with very little enthusiasm when it was published in 1936. It is about the Russian revolution in the early 20th century and the effect of the Soviet party on a girl and her family all who are desperately trying to maintain their own sense of freedom. It's not nearly as exciting as it sounds. I have 100 more pages to go and while I'm kind of bored, it's also interesting from a historic perspective. I'll be glad when I'm finished. It's no Fountainhead, which in my opinion is a top 5 book of all time for me.

Taylor Webb, how can you NOT like a Wrinkle in Time? or is it the others that aren't so good?

I am going to try this again. I posted a lengthy entry last night but I don't see the posting.

I am very excited to be a part of my very first blog. Since my in-laws appear to be very literate, I plan on some fascinating conversations regarding our latest reads.

Julie already mentioned our past two books together. I preferred Anna Karenina while she loved A Tale of Two Cities. I really loved the character development in AK. A Tale of Two Cities was good, but I found it a bit difficult - 1840's English + French...I needed a translator!

My recent reads included The Glass Castle which was tragically funny followed by a biograghy of Elizabeth Taylor. I do like my Hollywood exposes!

I have read about 100 pages of The Fountainhead. Julie are you ready?

Have pushed through to about page 150. The characters are beginning to round out a bit. Dominique is a scream. I can't quite figure out how Catie is going to fit in with all of this. She is meek and mild, yet I can't help but to think there is another side to her. Of course Keating is a complete ass.
